"First and foremost, get professional labor assistance. These are urgent, costly and complex matters. Don't fight a union campaign alone.

Then tactically, in a word? The best thing going? Anticipate. In its simplest form, anticipate means to understand and communicate to employees the expected steps of union organizers - their "playbook" as many call it.

In some cases, unions will actually tear up a page from their playbook because the employer has already called them on their next moves - and then offered counterpoints that are too difficult for the union to overcome.
